To assess the impact of China’s soft power on Botswana’s foreign policy orientation and economic dependence between 2000 and 2020, with a focus on the mechanisms, outcomes, and implications of China's diplomatic and economic strategies.

To critically examine how China’s use of soft power has influenced Botswana’s foreign policy decisions and contributed to its economic dependence from 2000 to 2020.

1. To explore the nature and tools of China’s soft power engagement with Botswana from 2000 to 2020.
2. To analyse the extent to which Botswana’s foreign policy decisions have been influenced by China’s soft power during this period.
3. To assess the level and dimensions of Botswana’s economic dependence on China from 2000 to 2020.
4. To evaluate the implications of China’s soft power on Botswana’s long-term sovereignty and policy autonomy.
5. To identify strategies Botswana can adopt to balance diplomatic and economic engagement with China while safeguarding national interests.
